NetSuite manual setup

Finish four setup tasks in the NetSuite UI after the installer runs. NetSuite has no way to deploy these, so you do them once by hand. The Connection wizard's post-install step creates everything else.

Run Run post-install setup in wizard step 4 before you start. It creates the settings record and the saved searches this page uses.

1. Point the settings record at your account

Your account's defaults live on one record, Continuous Revenue Settings. Post-install creates it for you. Choose most of these values in wizard step 4, under NetSuite account settings. You can also open the record in NetSuite and set each field there.

FieldWhat it does
Default SubsidiaryThe subsidiary for records the sync creates.
Default CurrencyThe currency for records the sync creates.
Deferred Revenue AccountSynced items post income here. Recognition moves revenue out of it.
Revenue AccountRecognition posts revenue here.
Item SubsidiariesA backup list of subsidiaries for new items. New items normally get every active subsidiary. This field isn't in the wizard.
Default Tax ScheduleApplied to items the sync creates.
Default Tax ItemApplied to customers the sync creates.
Refund Bank AccountRefund sync pays customer refunds from this account.
Refund Payment MethodRefund sync puts this payment method on customer refunds.
Default Revenue RuleThe rule for any item that doesn't have its own.
Auto-Recognize on Scheduled RunCheck it to post recognition during the nightly close. It only matters while the engine is on.
Disable Continuous Revenue EngineLeave it unchecked to plan and post revenue. When checked, POBs still update, but NetSuite creates no revenue plans, schedules or journal entries.
Disable Native Sales OrdersLeave it unchecked to create a native Sales Order for each booking. When checked, bookings don't create one.

Salesforce has its own engine switch. If either side is off, the engine is off. See One engine, two switches.

Refund sync reads the two refund fields on this record first. If they're blank, it uses the refund parameters on the Continuous Control (RESTlet) script deployment. Save the refund fields in wizard step 4 so the record holds them.

The wizard checks your work. Wizard step 4 marks any setting still on its shipped default. Step 9 shows the same values.

2. Attach the custom sublists

Sublists show related records on a subtab, such as the POBs on a contract. The saved searches behind them come with the install. You attach each one once.

  1. Open the saved search. On its Available Filters subtab, add Internal ID. The sublist picker only lists searches that have this filter.
  2. Go to Customization → Forms → Sublists.
  3. Add a row for the search, using the table below.
  4. Repeat for each search.

The GL Impact tab needs no setup

Open any posted invoice, credit memo, journal entry, or customer payment. The GL Impact tab lists its general-ledger lines: account, debit, credit, memo, and period. The install sets this up for you.

Attached GL Impact by hand before? Go to Customization → Forms → Sublists and delete the row for customsearch_cc_gl_impact. That sublist can list every GL line in the account instead of the open transaction's lines.

The POB sublist search ships with the install like the others. Post-install re-creates it only if it's missing, so re-run post-install after an upgrade to be sure.

3. Set a preferred form on each RC record type

By default, every RC record shows NetSuite's Translation and Workflow subtabs. A preferred form hides them, so each record opens on its own subtabs. NetSuite can't deploy forms, so you set them up once.

  1. Open any record of the type, such as an RC POB. Choose Customize → Customize Form.
  2. Name the form after the record type, such as RC POBs. Give it an ID such as custform_cc_pob.
  3. Leave Form is preferred checked.
  4. On the Subtabs tab, clear Show on Translation and Workflow.
  5. Save.

Repeat for all ten RC record types: Contract, Order, Order Line, POBs, Obligation Detail, Revenue Plan, Revenue Schedule, Billing Schedule Group, Billing Schedule and Billing Period.

On two forms, also put the subtabs in this order:

4. Prepare items you already have

Items the sync creates are set up for you. If you already have items in NetSuite that you'll sell through Continuous Control, update each one by hand.

Also make sure your tax setup finds a tax code for customers outside your home nexus. Customers the sync creates get the Default Tax Item, which covers most cases.
